How people choose where to eat
Hospitality decisions happen fast, on a phone, often within a few hundred metres. Someone searches, looks at the map, glances at photos and the star rating, checks whether you are open and books. The whole thing takes a minute.
That means the Google Business Profile is frequently doing more work than the website and the website's job is to make booking effortless once they arrive on it.

- The map, firstMost decisions are made in the map pack, before anyone opens a website.
- Photos and hoursCurrent photos, accurate hours and a live menu. Out-of-date details lose bookings quietly.
- Booking in two tapsEvery extra step between deciding and booking costs you covers.
- Events and private hireChristmas, birthdays and corporate hire are searched months ahead and are worth far more per booking.
What I do for hospitality
The same four services, aimed at what actually brings you enquiries.
01
Web design
A site built for the decision people are making on a phone: menu that loads instantly, booking in two taps, and the practical details they actually look for.
- Booking integrated, not buried
- Menus as text, not a slow PDF
- Fast on a phone, on 4G, outside
02
SEO
Most decisions happen in the map pack, so the Google Business Profile does the heavy lifting: categories, hours, photos and a steady flow of recent reviews.
- Hours, menus and attributes kept current
- A photo routine the team can keep
- Reviews asked for and answered
03
GEO
"Where should I eat in Shoreditch tonight" is now often answered by an assistant naming three places. Being one of them comes down to clear, current, corroborated facts.
- Menu and details readable by machines
- Schema and consistent listings
- Presence in the sources AI trusts
04
Google Ads
Short campaigns aimed at quiet nights and the seasons that matter, rather than a permanent budget bleeding away all year.
- Seasonal and quiet-night campaigns
- Tight radius, high intent
- Measured in bookings, not clicks
Frequently asked questions
How do I get my restaurant to the top of Google Maps?
A complete, accurate Google Business Profile in the right categories, a steady flow of recent reviews, current photos and consistency between what your site and every listing say about you. Proximity to the searcher matters too, which is why the map is winnable locally.
Does a restaurant need a website if it has social media?
Yes. Social media brings people who already know you exist; search brings people deciding right now. And a menu that only exists in an Instagram story cannot be read by Google or by an AI answering "where can I eat near me".
Should the menu be a PDF?
No. PDFs are slow on a phone, hard to read and search engines get little from them. A menu as web text loads instantly and can rank for the dishes you are known for.
How do I get more private hire and Christmas bookings?
Dedicated pages for each hire type with capacities, packages and prices, published well before the season. Christmas party searches in London start in September.
Are Google Ads worth it for a bar or restaurant?
In short bursts, yes, quiet weeks, a launch, a seasonal push. As an always-on channel it rarely beats simply owning the map pack.
