This notice explains what happens to the personal information you give me through this website, what I do with it, how long I keep it and what you can ask me to do about it. It is written to be read rather than to cover me, so if anything here is unclear, ask and I will explain it.

Who is responsible for your data?

I am. Olivia Barclay, trading as Oli Design, a freelance web designer and SEO consultant working from London. I am the data controller for everything described on this page, which means the decisions about what is collected and why are mine, not an agency's.

You can reach me at olivia.barclay.01@gmail.com about anything on this page, including a request to see or delete what I hold.

What I collect

Two things, and they are separate.

What you type into the contact form. Your name, your email address, your website if you give one, the services you tick and the message you write. Nothing is pre-filled, nothing is inferred and there is no account to create. When you press send, the message is passed to my hosting provider, which turns it into an email and delivers it to my inbox. It is not stored in a database, it is not passed to a third-party form service, and it is used for one thing: replying to you. If your browser cannot reach the server, the form falls back to opening your own email app instead, and nothing leaves your device until you press send there.

How the site is used. If you accept analytics cookies, Google Analytics 4 records the pages you visit, roughly where you are, which site or search brought you here and what device you are on. It does not know your name. It works from an identifier stored in your browser, which counts as personal data because it can single out one browser from another. If you refuse, none of this happens.

Why I collect it, and on what legal basis

  • To answer your enquiry and, if we work together, to do the work. The basis is legitimate interests: you asked me a question, replying to it is the obvious thing to do, and it is what you would expect. Once there is a project, it becomes necessary for the contract between us.
  • To understand how the site is used. The basis is your consent, given through the cookie banner and withdrawable at any time. See the cookie policy for what each cookie does.
  • To keep proper business records. Invoices and project correspondence are kept because the law requires it, which is a legal obligation.

Who else sees it

As few people as possible, and no one who is not doing a job for me.

  • Google. Your email reaches me through Google, which provides my email account, so your message sits in that inbox. Google Ireland Limited also processes the analytics data if you consented to it.
  • Nobody else. I do not sell your data, I do not share it for advertising, I do not add you to a mailing list and I do not pass it to other suppliers without telling you first. The only exception is if the law obliges me to hand something over.

Where it is stored

In the UK or the European Economic Area, or elsewhere under the safeguards UK data protection law requires, which is how Google operates. Google truncates IP addresses before storing analytics data.

Automated decisions and profiling

There are none. Nothing on this site scores you, ranks you or decides anything about you automatically. The analytics figures are aggregate reporting about the site, not judgements about individuals.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask me to:

  • show you a copy of what I hold about you;
  • correct anything that is wrong;
  • delete it;
  • stop or limit what I do with it;
  • send it to you, or to someone else, in a portable format;
  • stop relying on legitimate interests, if you object to that.

Where I rely on consent, for analytics, you can withdraw it at any time and it takes the same single click as giving it. Withdrawing does not undo what was lawfully done beforehand.

Write to olivia.barclay.01@gmail.com and I will respond within one month, and there is no charge.
